Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts to become an established star failed. Two record labels signed her and then dismissed her prior to having released any music. Capitol Records, however, issued Perry's Ur So Gay album in 2007 which was received with modest success for the album's title track. I kissed a Girl, a confident song about her sexual inclinations with a hard-edged electronic pop beat, was a big splash several months after. Some critics accused the song as a sly reference to homosexuality however others suggested that its racy depiction was designed to attract men with fantasies. I Kissed a Girl was an immediate hit for Perry's album One of the Boys in 2008 because of the mixture of titillation combined with polished melodicism. Hot N Cold, Perry's bouncy and sharply-tongued album with its second hit single also was a hit. The album Perry composed herself, sold over three million copies.
